Home Sweet Home, Finally...

I am SO excited to have a little place of my own! Maybe a few of you single-again folks can relate to the struggle...so, here's a hearty, "Wah-HOO!" for this grateful High-Heeled Gardener!

I've shared walls in apartments, and in duplexes and houses. I've been a roommate, I've had a couple roommates and I've rented rooms. I've lived in basements and bonus rooms, and slept on a few sofas.

FINALLY, after 13 longggg years, I have a house all to myself...with a room for guests and grandbabies!

There's a cute, although narrow, front porch for my flowers, herbs and watering cans. I'm scanning Pinterest (and saving them under "Small Spaces") looking for great ideas for narrow porches, so I'm sure I'll make some great improvements in the months to come.

There are some Azalea's that have already bloomed in the tiny front yard. There's an unkempt flower bed that has "project" written all over it--and I gladly accept the challenge!

That's not the best part, though! There's a huge side yard that's a perfect place for a square-foot garden, a fire pit and seating area...and extra parking since the house is pretty close to the road!

And I'm NEXT DOOR to a chiropractor and senior living if I over-do it! haha!

My back yard is downhill and not very deep, but there is a wooded lot behind me which makes my place super private--at least in the back!

Fragrant honeysuckle blossoms cover the wooded area, and luscious moss grows on the ground beside a brick walkway.

The hand-made brick path leads from a walk-in crawl space under the house to the stone steps and white gravel leading back up to the carport.

As you can tell by the photos...there are LOADS of projects in this yard. It hasn't been given much love in a longggg time, so I'll need some handy yard tools, a dependable lawn service, and lots of extra muscle (mine).

I love all the big trees that provide shade and and maybe even a spot to hang a rope swing or hammock! I wonder who does that kind of thing?? I can hang a hammock, but I'm not sure I can lasso a tree for a swing! haha

And did I mention I have a carport? My little car is absolutely LOVING it!

Plans are in the making for a weekend square-foot garden project. It feels like it has RAINED for almost 40 days and 40 nights (haha) and I have only been able to plant my herbs and flowers in containers on the porch.

This constant watering has kept me from constructing the raised bed and fire pit, but I'm still hopeful.

The boxes in the house are slowly but surely getting unpacked, kitchen shelves are getting lined with thick paper, and it only took one month and two days to find my silverware! haha

I just wanted to give you all an update...I know you've been losing sleep over it. haha

This little house is pretty close to fulfilling my "tiny house" dream.

I'm estimating 800-850 square feet!

Yes, there's raking to be done over all this beautiful moss!

And weeds to pull between the stones on the walkway out back...

Blooming, vining things are all over my private "jungle!"

I wonder if these are a type of fern?? Hmmm...

The stone steps in desperate need of repair (and more white gravel), leading

from the back yard to the carport.

It's a very narrow front porch, but I have some ideas!

And these Salmon Geraniums on my porch make me happy!!

Feel free to comment and share any ideas you might have for any of my projects!

Happy Gardening!
